 Shipman's Fire Equipment Co., Inc., serving municipal and volunteer fire departments, businesses, and industries in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and southern Massachusetts, has been in existence for over fifty years. Founded by the late Samuel "Sam" Wallace, the business continues to be family owned and operated by his son, Ernest P. Wallace, CEO/Owner. Our personnel consist of active or former career and volunteer fire fighters, fire marshals, and chief officers with hundreds of years of experience in the fire equipment, fire suppression, and fire prevention fields. Shipman's is divided into three major areas of operation consisting of: Fire Equipment Sales & Service; Fire Extinguisher Sales, Service & Inspection; and Fire Apparatus Sales & Service.
Shipman's operates from a new modern facility, conveniently located off Routes 95 and 395, which features administrative offices central to a spacious fully stocked showroom. We proudly represent the finest manufacturers of equipment and supplies that have been specifically designed to meet the stringent requirements and demands of the fire service and business community. Specially trained outside sales personnel, assisted by inside sales support staff, call on customers in the three-state region. Sales personnel provide technical pre-purchase assistance, demonstrations of new products, and training related to all equipment sold in addition to meeting traditional marketing and after sales needs of the consumer. Shipman's is a full-service distributor of over 1600 fire equipment and safety products, including but not limited to, self-contained breathing apparatus, protective clothing, fire hose, nozzles, foam, fire extinguishers, compressors, hydraulic rescue tools, and ladders.
A state-of-the-art fire extinguisher recharging and service area, US DOT licensed hydrostatic testing facility, and Scott Air Pak service center are also located on site supported by certified service technicians. Extinguisher inspections and related services are conducted in-house and/or at the customer’s facilities as required. All work meets the requirements of NFPA-10, and whenever it is necessary to remove an extinguisher from a customer's location a loaner of equal UL rating is provided until such time as the customer's extinguisher is returned. Extinguisher maintenance staff members are NAFED certified. Our Service Manager extensive experience with all aspects of fire protection, including the Life Safety Code. The building also features a large warehouse for storage of commonly stocked equipment, parts, and accessories, as well as bulk supplies of fire extinguishers, extinguisher powder, and fire-fighting foam for emergency response. A Scott self -contained breathing apparatus service and overhaul center is staffed with factory trained and certified technicians capable of providing mobile and in-house repairs to Scott Air Paks. Shipman's is also the factory authorized service center for Bauer breathing air compressors and Holmatro hydraulic rescue tools.
There are four large repair bays for the Apparatus Division, complete with hydraulic vehicle hoist capable of lifting today's large fire apparatus. Comprehensive apparatus and fire pump repairs, NFPA annual service tests, and preventative maintenance programs are available. Our mechanics are trained to repair Hale, Waterous, and Darley fire pumps, also providing mobile and in-house service. Custom installations of lighting towers, generators, automatic tire chains, shelves, trays, tool boards and equipment mounting are just a sample of the projects we can accomplish for your department.
Shipman’s has been the authorized Ferrara Fire Apparatus, Inc dealer and service center for Connecticut & Rhode Island. Located in Holden, LA Ferrara builds quality pumpers, tankers, rescue, brush, aerial and platform apparatus. Ferrara manufacturers the widest assortment of fire bodies in the industry including; extruded aluminum, modular welded 12-gauge galvanized steel, 12-gauge stainless steel, 3/16” aluminum, and unitized welded 12-gauge stainless steel with 7-gauge sub-frame. Built to last a lifetime, Ferrara’s extruded aluminum fire body is the strongest and most durable in the industry. Ferrara’s sub-frame, compartment frame work, hose bed, wheel wells, beavertails, pump compartment and running board/tailboard assemblies all rely upon heavy-duty extruded aluminum shapes that have a particular design function using 6061-T6 and 6063-T6 certified extrusions and 3/16” thick marine grade aluminum. Support after the sale is paramount, therefore Shipman’s maintains a fully enclosed, heated, fire-sprinkler protected and alarmed multi-bay service facility, factory trained and certified apparatus service technicians, as well as mobile apparatus service vehicles to support our customers.
In keeping with the critical nature of our customer base, we offer 24 hour emergency service when necessary to all aspects of our operations, including fire extinguisher maintenance, extinguishing agents, and supplies, Scott Air Pak repairs, Bauer compressor repairs, and Holmatro rescue tool repairs.
